Few signage projects demand the level of planning and collaboration required for the new Domino’s Distribution Centre overlooking the M49 near Bristol. With exceptionally large illuminated sign boxes specified for such a highly visible landmark site, the project required more than a manufacturing partner. It required technical expertise from concept through to installation.
The Challenge
The initial enquiry arrived from our customer in December 2025, who was looking for a solution capable of producing exceptionally large sign boxes without compromising strength, appearance or ease of installation. As discussions evolved, the project passed through several stakeholders before being managed by an intermediate project management company. Throughout this period, NOVA Aluminium remained closely involved, refining quotations, answering technical questions and advising on the most appropriate system for the application. Given the scale of the signage, selecting the right aluminium framework was critical. The solution needed to deliver the rigidity required for large spans while allowing a tensioned fabric face to be installed efficiently and achieve a perfectly smooth finish.
The Solution
From the outset, NOVA recommended its NovaFlex system, specifically engineered for large-format illuminated graphic signs. Its robust aluminium construction, combined with unique full perimeter tensioning, made it ideally suited to the project’s demanding specification. Once the order was secured in early March, NOVA’s involvement extended well beyond manufacturing. A collaborative technical meeting between NOVA, the project management team, the customer and the installation contractor ensured every aspect of the installation was considered before production commenced. Together, the teams reviewed the construction of each sign box, discussed structural support locations and aligned fixing positions with the building’s purlins to simplify installation on site. Rather than simply supplying the product, NOVA’s technical team worked alongside every contractor involved, providing practical guidance that helped eliminate uncertainty before work even began. Production was scheduled immediately, with all signage elements and skins delivered directly to site ready for installation. To ensure everything progressed as planned, Paul Harvey attended the first installation, providing on-site support and guidance to installers fitting the tensioned vinyl skins.
The Outcome
The completed signage now forms a striking feature of the new Domino’s Distribution Centre, creating a highly visible landmark for motorists travelling along the M49. More importantly, the project demonstrated the value of combining an engineered product with genuine technical partnership. From the earliest design discussions through to on-site installation, NOVA Aluminium provided practical advice, responsive support and engineering expertise at every stage. For customers delivering complex, large-scale signage projects, that collaborative approach helps minimise installation challenges, improves confidence throughout the build process and ensures the finished result performs exactly as intended.
